These lovely images of the Cwmtillery area were taken and submitted to the site by Maria Dawkins, to whom we are very grateful.

Much is being made of the so-called big freeze at the moment and records show it is the worst in the UK since 1981. As now, December 1981 was bitterly cold but the winter snow then didn’t really start until very early January 1982 when it caused chaos both locally and across Wales and the UK. So, to remind ourselves of that period, Rhys and Jeff Williams have submitted some ‘new’ images of that time and we have combined those with some from Carolyn Ellis and others as attributed - to view them click opposite

Carolyn has also supplied historic images of the renowned winter of 1947
