Welcome to
this section of the site entitled Tyleri Tales. Abertillery has had its
fair share of tragedy, infamy, fame, and famous people and events over
the years. Some are relatively obscure however such as:
-
The
Foundry Bridge was the first pre-stressed concrete bridge in
Britain.
-
The
whole modern history of Wales might have been very different had not
Cwmtillery soldier, Albert Wallace saved the life in 1915 of
Saunders Lewis, the founder of Plaid Cymru.
-
Tom
Jones signed his professional contract with manager Gordon Mills
after a performance at the 'Top Hat' club in Cwmtillery.
This
section details some of the lives and deeds of former inhabitants of the
town as well as notable events in its history.
If you
have suggestions for subjects, or would like to contribute to it in some
way, please e-mail: tales@abertillery.net
