Abertillery is a former coal mining town situated within the administrative county borough of Blaenau Gwent and geographically within the former counties of Gwent and previously Monmouthshire in south Wales.

 

The town is located within the Ebbw Fach valley surrounded by beautiful scenery of wooded hills and wild open moorland with lakes.

 

With a population of just over 16000 (including Llanhilleth), the town has a considerable number of organisations which contribute to a rich cultural and sporting life.

The town has a number of impressive buildings in the centre which reflect its Victorian heyday including the former Bon Marche building (above), which housed the biggest department store in Monmouthshire in its day.
